Laser Photonics, LLC has recently redesigned a Handheld Fiber Laser marking system (Handheld System) that’s small size is unprecedented in the industry. The newly redesigned Handheld System is more compact, even lighter than before and equipped with a handle for increased portability. This unique and versatile marking system now makes possible the marking of previously inaccessible objects and parts. The Handheld System offers virtually unlimited application possibilities for the automotive, aerospace, industrial, military and defense industries.
The ease of use and portability makes the Handheld System ideal for marking large inventories of parts where accessibility is an issue. The Handheld System can be taken inside a large machine or vessel, such as a submarine or tank, in order to mark parts without disassembling them. Databases that store information on a machine or vessel’s individual component can now be produced. No longer will human error be a factor in determining a part’s life cycle stage or viability. Each maintenance period, barcodes or UID codes can be scanned to reveal information pertaining to every part to be serviced or replaced on a particular piece of equipment. Never before has permanent marking of large equipment been accomplished with such speed and accuracy.
The scan head weighs approximately 5.5 lbs and can fit into a space as small as 11″. Also, the length of the cable that connects the scan head to the fiber laser source can be customized with between 15′ and 150′ of cable to meet the demands of challenging applications. For complete portability the Handheld System can also be equipped with a 12 or 24 volt DC battery. A conical shroud that can be attached to the scan head allowing the beam path focus to be narrowed is also under development. Utilizing the conical shroud, marks can be produced while maintaining the focal length allowing the system to mark in very narrow spaces.
This system is designed for maintenance-free Direct Part Marking (DPM) applications and is great for producing UID marks. The Handheld System is ideal for military applications where marking large parts with 2D matrix codes, barcodes or UID marks on a wide variety of materials is necessary.
